MONTESSORI SPEAKS

Deepening an understanding of Montessori

This website was created to disseminate research conducted with Montessori experienced educators, free of charge to the Montessori community.  The main research question asked: "What insights on implementing the Montessori educational concept can experienced practitioners offer to Montessori teachers?"

Four excerpts describe the findings. You are encouraged to download and print the excerpts and use them in ways that cultivate dialogue. Excerpts have been formatted to take to a printing service to print and staple into a small booklet for a more pleasurable read. You also can simply download, save, and read electronically.

In each excerpt you will find a brief background overview of the research explaining how the information was gathered and who participated.

The four excerpts are listed below and can be accessed and downloaded by clicking on the "Learn More' link below each one.

The full dissertation was published in December, 2017. A copy of it is found below also.

EXCERPTS

The Essence of Montessori

To explore the main research question, participants first were asked to dialogue on the essence of Montessori to establish a shared foundation. Read how they responded in this booklet.

For Prospective and New Montessori Teachers

Once participants had established the essence of Montessori they were asked to dialogue about how they would describe Montessori teachers that effectively implement the concept. The data collected for the second question became allocated into three groupings: for prospective and new teachers; teacher educators; and school administrators. This excerpt covers insights for prospective and new Montessori teachers.

For Montessori Teacher Educators

Seventeen of the 20 coresearchers were teacher educators. Scattered throughout the comments made during the dialogues, thoughts about teacher development and preparation surfaced. This excerpt covers insights gleaned

for teacher educators.

For Montessori School Administrators

Sixteen of the coreseachers had been or were school administrators. Just as insights for teacher educators emerged during the dialogues, so too, insights specific for Montessori school administrators. Those insights are covered in this excerpt.

Perspectives on Montessori: Indigenous Inquiry, Teachers, Dialogue, and Sustainability

This is the entire dissertation from which the excerpts were taken. Overall, the intent of the research became deepening and broadening perspectives on Montessori. You will find all aspects of the research here.

"What you have put together is what we in Montessori have not been able to quantify. It is helpful, it is real, it is informative and it is affirming! The basis is pertinent to teachers inside and outside of Montessori."
